BIRTH OF BYC
Birth Of BYC
The Kanbi community of Gujarat, India, began migrating to East Africa in the early 1900s, preserving their culture through the “Samaj.” In the UK, smaller “Gam” groups like Baladia Sarvodal
emerged after the first wave of migration in the 1960s.
To address social and recreational needs, Baladia Sarvodal formed the Baladia Youth Association (BYA) in 1977, organizing cricket and other activities. BYA later merged with Baladia Cricket Club in 1980, but limited offerings led to dissatisfaction. In 1983, community leaders established the Baladia Youth Club (BYC) as an independent organization to meet growing demands.
Snapshot Of BYC
BYC, founded in 1983, is a voluntary non-profit offering sports, coaching, and social activities. Originally focused on youth aged 8-18, it now caters to all ages. BYC has provided opportunities in cricket, badminton, football, and more, uniting generations through sports and community.
Rooted in Kanbi values, BYC continues to foster tradition, self-reliance, and active lifestyles, remaining a cornerstone for members of all ages.
