About BYC
Birth Of BYC
The Kanbi community of Gujarat, India, began migrating to East Africa in the early 1900s, preserving their culture through the “Samaj.” In the UK, smaller “Gam” groups like Baladia Sarvodal emerged after the first wave of migration in the 1960s.
To address social and recreational needs, Baladia Sarvodal formed the Baladia Youth Association (BYA) in 1977, organizing cricket and other activities. BYA later merged with Baladia Cricket Club in 1980, but limited offerings led to dissatisfaction. In 1983, community leaders established the Baladia Youth Club (BYC) as an independent organization to meet growing demands.
BYC, founded in 1983, is a voluntary non-profit offering sports, coaching, and social activities. Originally focused on youth aged 8-18, it now caters to all ages. BYC has provided opportunities in cricket, badminton, football, and more, uniting generations through sports and community.
Rooted in Kanbi values, BYC continues to foster tradition, self-reliance, and active lifestyles, remaining a cornerstone for members of all ages.

Charity
For a long time BYC has been helping charities within the UK and abroad. We have always felt that as a community we can make a difference to those less fortunate or in need.
Over the years BYC has organized fundraising events including raising money for the Earthquake in India by organising a Natak; taking part in a 5k walk in Hyde Park for Cancer UK; cricket matches to raise money for University College Hospital children’s ward; we also donated a machine to the Physiotherapy Dept at SKLP hospital Bhuj. To celebrate the clubs 25th Anniversary we had a Medical Camp in Rapar, India, where over 2000 people benefited.
Other events include a Summer Dandia Night which raised over £2000.00 for the Heart and Stroke Research Campaign at Northwick Park Hospital; regular volunteering for fundraising events for St Lukes Hospice as well as hosting events; Great Ormond Street Hospital Fun Run; cricket tournaments for Bal Gopal foundations.
