About BYC
Birth Of BYC
The Kanbi community of Gujarat, India, began migrating to East Africa in the early 1900s, preserving their culture through the “Samaj.” In the UK, smaller “Gam” groups like Baladia Sarvodal emerged after the first wave of migration in the 1960s.
To address social and recreational needs, Baladia Sarvodal formed the Baladia Youth Association (BYA) in 1977, organizing cricket and other activities. BYA later merged with Baladia Cricket Club in 1980, but limited offerings led to dissatisfaction. In 1983, community leaders established the Baladia Youth Club (BYC) as an independent organization to meet growing demands.
BYC, founded in 1983, is a voluntary non-profit offering sports, coaching, and social activities. Originally focused on youth aged 8-18, it now caters to all ages. BYC has provided opportunities in cricket, badminton, football, and more, uniting generations through sports and community.
Rooted in Kanbi values, BYC continues to foster tradition, self-reliance, and active lifestyles, remaining a cornerstone for members of all ages.

Charity
At Baladia Youth Club, we believe in inspiring positive change both on and off the sports field. As part of our mission to serve as a force for good, we proudly partner with several impactful charities dedicated to making a difference in our community and beyond.
St Luke’s Hospice
St Luke’s Hospice provides care for people nearing the end of their lives in Harrow and Brent. Our commitment to St Luke’s Hospice is annual, with BYC members volunteering their time each year to assist at events like the Midnight Walk, Santa Dash, and Bubble Run, helping to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.
Other Charitable Partnerships
BYC has also formed partnerships with various charities, both in the UK and internationally. Some of the organizations we’ve worked alongside include:
- Sufra NW London: This local charity works to prevent hunger and poverty, supporting families in need, refugees, and those experiencing homelessness and social isolation.
- Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity: Supporting seriously ill children and their families, this charity funds essential areas like hospital refurbishments, research, and life-saving treatments.
- SKSST Harrow: A local temple where BYC members volunteer to provide food packages to the community and assist with various temple events.
